LA Street Food Fest 2010 @Rose Bowl - Pasadena

On July 24th, a normal SoCal sunny day, several thousand food lovers gathered around over 60 food trucks vendors

for an AYCE street food summer tasting event. My kind of weekend night out.

People were fast walking while some were line cutting. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what drives them.

The beef was tender and well seasoned. I was tempted to get seconds, but a voice in me wanted me to save room for others.

Fish & Shrimp Taco @Mariscos El Tetos.

While it’s simply beautiful and appetizing, the deep fried batter is heavier than it looks.

While waiting for one of the endless lines, the interview of a first bite of the Dogzilla was sure a crowd pleaser.

dogzilla2-2010-07-24-23-34.jpg

Dogzilla’s dog consisted of a beef frank, avocado, bacon bits, grilled onions, furikake, Japanese mayo & teriyaki sauce.

The combination and the textures of the ingredients work very well.

Now there is no fast walking fast enough to burn off these fast sugar intakes. Endless cone frosting!

Just when thousands of people started to show and line up in the field, we decided to relocate ourselves to the ice cream candy zone.

The Warpaint

It’s no surprise after an event like this one, I was feeling full all the way to the next morning.

Well worth the experience, though.

Cook - Thai Red Curry

Had always thought the colorful Thai curries were impossible to make.

After a visit to the Bangkok Market in Hollywood, I was convinced by the friendly Thai lady clerk the otherwise.

PastedGraphic2-2010-07-21-22-46.jpg

First off, the ingredients:

Holy Basil, Bamboo Shoots, Potatoes, Shallots, Ginger & Orange Bell Peppers.

Kara Coconut Cream (200ml), Mae Anong Brand Red Curry Paste (1.5 tablespoons) & 1 cup of water.

Raw Shell-less Shrimp coated with corn starch and white pepper.

PastedGraphic3-2010-07-21-22-46.jpg

Saute the shallots and ginger then add potatoes, bell peppers, curry paste, water & coconut cream bring to boil.

(5-10 minutes)

While waiting for the curry simmering for another 10 minutes, pan fried the shrimp with medium high heat. Crispy.

Add the holy basil and serve with rice of any kind. Serves two.

Judge’s table:

the curry did not taste bad but it was a bit bland. Later I realized that I have forgotten to add the fish sauce.

One tablespoon should do the job. Next time.

Santa Monica - Bite Bar and Bakery

One day after I read the entry of Exile Kiss about this spot, BBE came up with the 30% off code.

I knew I had to go and check out the Fantastic Croissant is all about.

80% of the interior is dining tables which left tiny portion of the space for the bar and sofas.

IMG_8710-2010-07-10-18-59.jpg

There was only one waiter taking orders while also multi-taking as the cashier. Though he did tried to be attentive.

Still we had to wait and look at other people’s plates.

IMG_8708-2010-07-10-18-59.jpg

First up was the Fresh OJ & Hot Chocolate. I believe the OJ was fresh. The Hot Chocolate wasn’t very sweet.
